However, from an ecclesiastical point of view, they belong to two different units: the parishes of Sant Pere de Bigues and Sant Mateu de Montbui, currently disappeared as a parish, belonged to the bishopric of Barcelona, today of Terrassa, in the archpriest of Montbui and Puiggraciós, and to that of San Vicente de Riells, in the bishopric of Vic, in the archpriest of Moianès.

History of Bigues and Riells


Bigues i Riells has a long and rich history. It dates back to the Bronze Age, around 2500 BCE. C., resulting in the discovery of many funerary structures and archaeological artifacts in the area. The main remains include the Celts, who were very prevalent in pre-Roman times in the region, including an ancient castle built by the Romans. The town was formed when the two municipalities, Bigues and Riells del Fai, united to create the municipality of Bigues i Riells. The capital of this commune alternated between these two towns until 1973 when it was finally established that the capital would be Bigues.
