Welcome to Olot, the city of volcanoes


Olot is a municipality and town in the province of Girona, in Catalonia. Capital of the region of La Garrotxa, it has a population of 36,299 inhabitants. It is especially known for its places of natural interest; Not in vain all of its municipal area is within the natural park of the Volcanic Zone of La Garrotxa. The best known and most visited volcanoes (all of them extinct) are Santa Margarita, Croscat and the Montsacopa volcano, also known as Sant Francesc. The Croscat is famous because the terrain is "cut" and the geological strata can be perfectly appreciated, being at its foot the Botanical Garden of Olotense Natural Vegetation. Also arousing great interest is the Jordá beech forest, an immense exquisite beech forest to get lost in and stroll around, both on foot and by bicycle, horseback or carriage.


The volcanoes of Olot

The center of Olot


The center of Olot is an area of ​​contrasts between the past and the present. The old neighborhood of Can Janot extends between the old city walls and is one of the most interesting in the city. In the center of Olot you can also find the Garrotxa Museum, the Municipal Theatre, the Pia Almoina Palace and the Church of Sant Esteve.

The municipality of Olotí has a rich natural and landscape heritage with forests of pine oak, large-leaved oak, beech and holm oaks, numerous springs, the Aiguamolls de la Moixina and la Deu, the basaltic plateau of Batet and the volcano of Croscat, the 'most recent eruption of the Iberian peninsula, with a large cut on the north face, the result of an ancient sandstone extraction, which allows you to observe its internal structure.
