Polinyà

Welcome to Polinyà!


Polinyà is a municipality in Catalonia. Belonging to the province of Barcelona, ​​in the Vallès Occidental region, located in the northeastern part of it, on the border with the Vallés Oriental region. The municipal term also includes the nucleus of Serra Maurina.


History of Polinyà


In 1965, the remains of a mastodon from the Miocene period, a Tetralophodon longirostris, were discovered in the municipality, considered the first complete specimen of this type found in Spain. The church of Sant Salvador de Polinyà was consecrated in 1122 and is especially notable for its Romanesque murals whose remains can still be seen on its walls.


Places of interest in Polinyà


Polinyà has numerous places of tourist interest that are worth visiting. Among them stands out the castle of Polinyà, built in the 14th century, the natural park of Serra de l'Obac, the park of La Creueta and the Hermitage of Santa Caterina. Also noteworthy is the city museum, located in the old Santa Clara convent, which houses numerous works of art from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Polinyà is a city with rich gastronomy, especially known for its sweets. Among the main dishes are "Mig Any" (a typical dish of the region), "Romesco", "Escalivada", "Calçot" and "Crema Catalana". In addition, there are numerous restaurants and bars in the municipality that offer typical dishes of the area.

How to get to Polinyà


Polinyà is located about 20 km from Barcelona. It can be reached by car through the AP-7 motorway or by public transport through the R1 train line. There are also numerous bus lines that connect Polinyà with Barcelona and other municipalities in the region.
